PASTOR ADEBOY'E RETIREMENT AS GENERAL OVERSEER OF RCCG
Pastor E.A Adeboye has reportedly retired as the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Adeboye retires as RCCG G.O. and Obayemi has been named as successor
The Nation reports that he announced his decision on Saturday morning, January 7.
Pastor J.O. Obayemi has been named as his successor.
Recall that last year, the church said those calling for his retirement because of his age were ignorant of the church’s doctrine.
Adeboye, 74, was appointed the general overseer of the church in 1991, taking over from Papa Akindayomi, who had died the previous year.
The former lecturer had reportedly stepped down from his role as the ministry's overseer with another senior pastor, J O Obayemi succeeding him with immediate effect.
He was said to have made this announcement on Saturday, December 7, having led the church since 1991.
While the news of his retirement still looked unbelievable to some Nigerians, others believe the man of God has actually paid his due and has earned the accolades that he has gotten over the years.
Several others expressed optimism in seeing the RCCG maintaining its standard which Pastor Adeboye has reportedly kept religiously for more than two decades.
A few Nigerians preferred to drop their comments on Facebook as they also expressed their disbelief with the report, but those who believed heaped encomium on the man of God.
Owerri-based Samson Anyanwu believes the outgoing RCCG GO is an epitome of humility as he wrote: "What an epitome of humility and godliness. He's just proved to the world that God is the real owner of the church and not Man. I'm not an RCCG Member but I'm really touched by this. Sir Adeboye is indeed a real Man of God... May God continue to bless him and his family!!!!!"
Finance expert, Ekuma Anthony Ifebuche noted that the retirement is something that Pastor Adeboye has worked really hard to earn and that he needs the rest he has decided to take by stepping down.
"God bless the kingdom General. U really need some rest. That how it supposed to be. Wish our politicians will emulate you," he wrote on Facebook.
